Feedback Units are mechanically linked to the rudder tiller to follow rudder movement. This movement is used to generate electrical signals that represent rudder position. These signals are used by the steering system controls to accurately move the rudder to the position commanded by the operator. Feedback models support up to five electrically isolated position outputs. A typical system requires three, one signal dedicated to each of the two steering controls for redundancy and a third for use by the Rudder Angle Indicators located throughout the vessel.
EMI supports three feedback models: standard, waterproof, and small. The stainless steel enclosure of the waterproof model is recommended for applications where the feedback is to be mounted on the deck, exposed to weather.
EMI’s standard and waterproof feedbacks also support up to two pairs of limit switches. The limit switches are actuated by adjustable cams to prevent movement of the steering gear prior to reaching mechanical limits.
